Emily Tummons, Board Chair teaches Kaqchikel Maya at the University of Kansas.
Her research in linguistics focuses on a grammatical class of roots in Kaqchikel called positionals.
In addition to her duties as board chair, she also serves as translator for Wuqu' Kawoq
medical providers while in Guatemala. |

Brent Henderson, Secretary is an assistant professor at the University of Florida where
he teaches linguistics. His primary interests include the morphology and syntax of
Bantu and Afro-semitic languages, syntactic theory, biolinguistics, and
second language acquisition. He also coordinates a large language documentation project
on Chimiini, an endangered language spoken in Somalia. |

Russell Rohloff, Treasurer is a professional engineer
practicing in New England who specializes in water and sanitation
design. He also brings to Wuqu' Kawoq many years of experience managing the
finances of small nonprofits. He serves as main technical advisor on all of
Wuqu' Kawoq's water and other infrastructure projects. |

Robert Henderson is a PhD student in
linguistics at the University of California Santa Cruz. His research is
centered on syntax and formal semantics, but he has a strong interest
in Mayan languages because they have the potential to tell us much
about how human languages work. Robert got involved in Wuqu' Kawoq as a
way to promote indigenous language maintenance and revitalization while
actually serving the needs of the communities in which he
works. |

Pat O'Brien has a background in Physical Education and later
became the owner of an agricultural business which he has operated for
25 years. As a young boy he spent five years in the Canadian arctic
before moving back to central Alberta, Canada. Pat enjoys spending time
with his family, the outdoors, photography and travel. As a past president
of the Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake, he has the experience and passion to
assist Wuqu' Kawoq with its work in Guatemala. |

Anne Kraemer Diaz, Executive Director is a PhD student in anthropology at the University of Kansas. She studies
the relationship between nongovernmental organizations and local Maya communities. She is a former
Fulbright Scholar and holds a M.A. in Anthropological Archaeology. She speaks Spanish, Kaqchikel and is learning K'ichee'.
When she cannot be found in Kansas, she lives in Chocola, Suchitepéquez, Guatemala. |

Peter Rohloff, Medical Director holds doctorates in
pathobiology and medicine. He has been working in Guatemala since 2002 managing
clinical programs. In Guatemala, his research interests include ethnomedicine, cultural revitalization,
and resource-poor health care management. He speaks Spanish and Kaqchikel Maya. |

Anita Chary is an MD/PhD student in anthropology at Washington University. Her research interests
include gender, lactation, and malnutrition. She coordinates ethnographic efforts on these themes, and
assists with management of our maternal-child programs. |

Catarina Salas assists with our child nutrition program in Socorro.
She lives in Santo Tomas, speaks Spanish and K'ichee', and holds a
degree in social work from the University of San Carlos. |

Eric Sorenson, Intern recently graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's
degree in biology and a focus in Latin American Studies. He is currently living in San Juan Comalapa
and learning Kaqchikel. His focuses on Wuqu' Kawoq's efforts
to expand prenatal care coverage in that town. |

Florencio Calí lives in Tecpán. He primarily coordinates activities between our
clinical sites. Additionally, he is responsible for arranging referral medical services for
our patients who require specialized care.

Graham Hall has a master's degree in linguistic anthropology from Tulane University.
His interests include historical Mayan linguistics and traditional Maya medicine. He is currently
living in Santiago Sacatepéquez working to improve Wuqu' Kawoq's service delivery there. He speaks
Kaqchikel Maya.

Magda Sotz Mux is our field manager in
Chiq'a'l (San Juan Comalapa). She coordinates
efforts with ACOTCHI and is currently managing a large survey and needs
assessment project of
pregant women and midwives in Chiq'a'l and Iximche' (Tecpán). Magda
is also an expert teacher with
over 10 years of experience teaching Kaqchikel. |

Mayra Lacan is our primary field manager in the Bocacosta. She holds a degree
in social work from the University of San Carlos. She lives in Chocolá and is a native speaker
of Spanish and K'ichee'. Her primary responsibilities include administration of our child
malnutrition programs. |

Sarah Messmer is a medical student at Harvard University. Her interests include malnutrition,
women's health. In Guatemala, she primarily manages research and evauation aspects of our
child malnutrition projects. |

Shom Dasgupta is a graduate student in anthropology at Harvard University
and in medicine and public health at Northwestern University. He works closely with our child
malnutrition and health promoter programs. He speaks Spanish and Kaqchikel. |

Wicha Ixtajop is our field manager in
Pa K'in (Santiago Sacatepéquez). In this capacity she is currently
spearheading
all of our community development initiatives there, most notably the
diabetes clinic. |

Brent Metz is an Assistant Professor in anthropology at the University of Kansas. He is an expert on indigeneity in Guatemala. His work has focused primarily on the Ch'orti' Maya of eastern Guatemala, and he has written several books and articles on this theme. He also speaks Ch'orti'. Brent advises Wuqu' Kawoq on ethical, cultural, and anthropological issues. |

Malcolm Hill practices pediatrics and adolescent medicine at Carle Hospital/University if Illinos College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. He advices Wuqu' Kawoq on medical ethics and medical program delivery and quality improvement, especially in our maternal-child programs. |
