A fundamental feature of our work transforming health in rural Guatemala is our commitment to using science to provide the most effective care possible.
We meticulously record and evaluate everything we do to understand what’s working, what’s not, and how to do better. We share this knowledge with others through dozens of published studies a year.
We also participate with teams across the globe in studies to help understand health issues on a broader level. Just one example is this seminal study of diabetes treatment in low- and middle-income countries published in The Lancet. The study, which provides the first comprehensive, global look at diabetes rates, found that the majority of people with diabetes live in low-and middle-income countries, and that most of these patients do not receive effective care.
